What’s going on in Lebanon?
On August 4, 2020 a devastating explosion ripped through the sea port of Beirut causing widespread damage, claiming many lives, injuring thousands and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless.
In addition to this horrific explosion, Lebanon was already in an extremely fragile state. Facing a global pandemic and years of a corrupt government in power, the economy has been in free fall since late 2019. With a plunging devaluation of currency prohibiting accessibility to food, clean water and medicine, more than half the country is struggling to survive on the day to day basis. Lebanon imports around 80% of what it consumes, while the destructed port of Beirut handled around 60% of those imports.
This explosion along with the pandemic, economic crisis, political unrest and food shortage, is why Lebanon needs your support now more than ever.
